I have lived in the North Okanagan for 15 years now and enjoy both exploring realism and abstract or non-objective art.
I studied at the Vancouver School of Art many years ago but did not pursue painting as a career. The 70s were a time of great development of art in Vancouver but that was then, and now I am wondering if the rather conservative art scene gets what I am doing. I am on the board of the Village Gallery in Lumby and have a chance to display my paintings, although I usually display more realistic scenes.
My mentors have been Lumby instructors Lou Hammond and Robin LeDrew. I have taken short workshops with Barry Rafuse, Gail Woodhouse, Ann Willsie, Gail Short, Tina Siddiqui, and Michael Downs. I am not moved by finishing perfect images but exploring gesture, texture, and color. I would like to explore printing collagraphs if I had more time.
