marlene mcpherson
Marlene believes that making art is an enjoyable life-long learning activity. She works in a variety of mediums and each year she enters a number of local art shows and competitions. Marlene is involved in the art community and holds memberships in local galleries and art groups. She has held active status with the Federation of Canadian Artists since 1998.
Marlene is also an art teacher and has designed a private Fine Art program which she has instructed children, teens and adults in since 1993. Combining her strong passion for the fine arts with her philosophy that ‘making art can be a learned skill, and there is some creativity in everyone’ she has developed a unique teaching style and curriculum, which she continues to enjoy teaching and perfecting in her Winfield home studio M.G.M. Fine Art Studios. Besides directing her studio programs, Marlene has been an instructor with the City of Kelowna and the Kelowna Art Gallery. In 2008, Marlene was nominated for the ‘Teacher of the Year’ Okanagan Art Award recognizing her teaching contribution in the Fine Arts.
Marlene’s art reflects her life; the things she feels and sees each day, the world she knows. It illustrates her community of Lake Country, ponders her Mennonite heritage of the Christian faith and mirrors the daily rhythms of her life. She is presently working in acrylic, pastel and watercolour, sometimes combined, and focusing on personal interpretations of local landscapes and experiences.
